Mega Service completed. 147444 miles

Hi All,

Previous posting suggested an annual service and seeing to some noisy tappets.

The day after i wrote that the noisy tappet noise got very loud, turning out to be in fact a blown head gasket.

Repairs of this nature are well beyond my skills / mechanical confidence level, so i entrusted the work to my mechanic. £200 later and it's all done.

Whilst Colin did this job, he found my filter service kit in the boot and did that too.

Now have new oil, air and fuel filters.

Will take it steady for a while to make sure Head gasket is ok.

Hope to be at Peterborough on 10th Sept for the LRO show.

Fuel Filter, Oil & Filter Change 28.05.10

When i started working on my Disco, the first thing I noticed is the scale of everything. Take the diesel filter for example, it's about the size of a pint glass! And for the oil change, you need a whopping 6.9Litres of oil, i.e. buy 2 x 4.5L containers! That said, the parts so far have been cheap, so not making such a big dent in the wallet. An oil and filter change on my old Mk3 Astra would have cost me about the same. The next job on the cards is the Stop Solenoid. For this I've had to buy a 24mm spanner (purchased on ebay for a few quid) which will be ground to nothing when it arrives in the post, because there is hardly any room to work! Watch this space to see how I get on!
